It’s a new year and hopefully, lots of opportunities to play our favourite game. All the clubs are gearing up and already playing good bridge! We should try to get as much bridge in before 21 December, the date the world will end according to the Mayan calendar. Our Festival of Bridge went off pretty well and this year we will have a longer event. I am sure we can make it the top provincial event in the country. As always, there are lots of opportunities for bridge, either at club level or provincial and national level. This year Congress takes place in Cape Town, at Kelvin Grove and I would urge as many as possible of you to enter this prestigious event. Check the bridge calendar for dates. Also coming up at the Bridge Centre is our Red Point Teams event. The entry form is on our website, so please get your entries in. Winners of the A & B grades will have the privilege of representing the WP at the National Teams event in August. Joy Fish has resigned from our committee and it was with reluctance that we accepted her resignation. She has been on the committee for less than a year, but certainly was involved in all our activities. She will be missed. We approached Shirley Kaminer who has agreed to be co-opted to the committee. We look forward to her input. Our AGM will take place on 3 March. Please diarize the date and start giving some thought to matters you may wish to raise then and also consider who you may want to propose to serve on your committee. During this year, we hope to have our lease for the Bridge Centre in place and so that we can really make it a special place for Bridge. We are fortunate that our sponsors, Private Client Holdings, are willing to assist us with some of the improvements. That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing you at the various events during this year. Regards, and m.a.y.f.g.r. Jan Jan Van Dijken |
